On February 12th, 2018, the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea and the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities of the Republic of Mauritius signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a cooperation in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency and the fight against climate change.

The Italian Ministry for the Environment will co-finance the activities approved under the Protocol with a maximum amount of 2 million euros.

Among the priorities set by the Protocol, we point out, in particular:

• renewable energy technology, including but not limited to wind, solar, waste to energy, wave energy and biomass;
• sustainable waste management;
• the development of solar powered water pumping systems;
• the launch of renewable energy projects and energy efficiency through public-private partnerships;
• training activities, exchange of experts and information on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
