VTC, November 11, 2020 – In the sixth meeting of the Joint Committee, held by videoconference, the negotiation of the new Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of sustainable development was started, the areas affected by this new cooperation are many:
- Collection, analysis and dissemination of climate data and improvement of observation facilities in order to measure climate change impact on potentially vulnerable sectors;
- Improvement of risk assessment and disaster management;
- Protection of biodiversity and reduction of environmental degradation;
- Promotion of sustainable management of resources;
- Promotion of sustainable and integrated land use;
- Guarantee of sustainable and integrated management of water resources;
- Technology transfer and professional development in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector;
- Sustainable waste management and development of the circular economy;
- Development of education and awareness campaigns on climate change and sustainable development;
- Strengthening public participation and exchange of new practices on environmental assessment.
The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the Sustainable urban wetlands development within Kigali City project, that has undergone a budget change and a non-onerous temporal extension. The project is about to be completed successfully.
